On November 22, 2022, Tuesday night at 11:45 PM, a fire alarm was raised in Sitio Paradise, Brgy. Looc, Mandaue City, Philippines. The fire quickly spread in the area because most of the homes in the community affected were made of light and combustible materials. The three-story main office of Bidlisiw Foundation, Inc. with address at A. Mabini St., Looc, Mandaue City was also engulfed in flames but even then, its structure remained standing and helped slow down the fire which saved the other houses across the street. However, the fire destroyed all equipment, files, furniture, and other things inside the building.
It is estimated that the fire has displaced over 1,000 households. The affected families and individuals have been evacuated and assisted at Barangay Looc Gym and at Mandaue City Central School with the help of the Mandaue City Social Welfare Services – CSWS Office together with barangay officials, and other government agencies. The local government unit of Mandaue City has deployed mobile kitchens and provided the evacuee’s modular tents at the evacuation centers. Ongoing profiling and validation are being done to identify the real extent of the damages and affected individuals.
Bidlisiw may have lost a lot in this devastating situation, but we remain steadfast in our mission to continuously serve our communities, especially to ensure the protection of children in these trying times. We are conducting quick assessments of the immediate needs of affected families in coordination with government agencies and partners.
